MANILA -- Several senatorial candidates launched their campaigns on Tuesday, the first day of the campaign period for national posts.
Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño opened his campaign with a symbolic run to the Senate, and former Puerto Princesa Mayor Edward Hagedorn held a motorcade around Manila.
This morning, preparations were in full swing at the Plaza Miranda where the administration alliance, Team PNoy, is set to hold a proclamation rally.
Security has been tightened ahead of the event. Organizers have also made sure those attending mass at the nearby Quiapo Church will not be bothered.
All 12 candidates of the administration slate will be present for the proclamation rally with President Benigno Aquino III.
The program will start at around 4 p.m.
Other party-list groups are also expected to troop to Plaza Miranda to formally launch their campaigns.
Meanwhile in Cebu, the stage is also set at the Plaza Independencia where the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) will hold its own proclamation rally this afternoon.
A mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral kicked off the day's activities.
At least 50,000 supporters are expected to attend the rally, which will be led by UNA stalwarts Vice President Jejomar Binay, former President Joseph Estrada and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.
Only 9 senatorial candidates are expected to be present as reports have come out that Grace Poe-Llamanzares, Loren Legarda and Francis Escudero, who are all common candidates, will not be able to attend UNA's rally.
