Sulu sultan rejects Malaysia's ultimatum
MANILA -- The Sultan of Sulu has reiterated his order to his followers not to leave Sabah despite a reported ultimatum given by Malaysian authorities to leave the island.
In a press conference Friday, the Kiram family said they plan to go to international courts to defend their claim over Sabah.
The Kiram family also said it will not resort to violence.
Around 200 followers of the Sultan Jamalul Kiram III, some of them armed, are currently surrounded by Malaysian forces in Sabah.
Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said he and Armed Forces Chief Emmanuel Bautista are coordinating with their Malaysian counterparts to resolve the issue peacefully.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario also confirmed the Philippine government is trying to convince the Kiram family to pullout their followers from Sabah.
