Foreign Affairs spokesperson Raul Hernandez on Monday said the humanitarian ship sent to Sabah aims to repatriate followers of Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III, who is claiming the Malaysian territory.
Hernandez said the repatriation of the women among the 100 to 200 followers is the priority of the mission.
The followers of the Sulu sultan have been holed up in the town of Lahad Datu since February 9 to assert their claims over the land.
The group said they have claims over Sabah, citing numerous historical accounts and rental receipts from the Malaysian government.
