Thousands of Filipinos joined the nation in celebrating the 27th anniversary of the EDSA Revolution at the People Power Monument on Monday.
President Benigno Aquino III arrived shortly before 8 a.m. and led the celebration attended by his cabinet secretaries, ambassadors from different countries, students and civilians.
Among the highlights of the EDSA celebration was the reenactment of the historic “Salubangan” in 1986 where ordinary citizens and members of the religious sector stopped military tanks along EDSA and convinced soldiers to join anti-Marcos forces.
Another highlight was the signing of the Marcos compensation law which allots some P10 billion in funds from the Marcos family's alleged ill-gotten wealth to human rights victims.
