MANILA - Malaysian media are live-tweeting details of the raid in Sabah.
In its Twitter account, Malaysia's Star Online quoted Lahad Datu police saying that the "Sulu gunmen in Tandai have been totally defeated."
The police said casualties on the side of the Sulu gunmen are still unknown but authorities are now going from house to house to check on the residents.
Bernama, the Malaysian national news agency, reported that the offensive began with an aerial attack. The agency said an F-18 and a Hawk fighter aircraft were used in the air raid followed by the firing of mortar and a ground assault by the Army.
For its part, the New Straits Times reported the Lahad Datu District Hospital is on alert and preparing for any casualties following the strike this morning.
Local media also said after the assault a forensic unit was seen heading towards the area that was raided by the police.
Before 11 am today, it is now reportedly "business as usual" in Lahad Datu.
Police urge the public not to listen to speculations and verify reports with the police first.
