Solidum: Tsunami will not affect PH
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) chief Renato Solidum Jr. said the 8.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Indonesia, including a possible tsunami, will not affect the country.
He said the epicenter was found behind the trench.
A movement in front of the trench would have been another matter, similar to the Sumatra Earthquake of 2004 that claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands. This scenario would have displaced the seabed in the Indian Ocean, leading to wave after wave of terror in the coastlines.
Solidum said the Philippines, meanwhile, is on alert given the regional monitoring system in place.
