The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is not extending today's deadline for the filing of income tax returns (ITR).

The BIR said those who fail to file their ITRs later than today will be penalized with a 20% interest and a 25% surcharge.

BIR offices opened at 7 a.m. and will close 5 p.m. to accomodate the deluge of taxpayers.

BIR Comissioner Kim Henares advised taxpayers to pay the correct amount of taxes or they will be charged with tax evasion. – ANC Headstart, April 16 2012
