Majority of Filipinos favor gun control - Pulse
MANILA, Philippines -- Majority of Filipinos are in support of gun control in the Philippines.
In a Pulse Asia survey, 75 percent of respondents mostly from Metro Manila said they favor a policy on gun control.
The same survey also shows most Filipinos blame the proliferation of guns as a major cause of crime and violence in the country.
It added 78 percent of respondents are in favor of allowing only law enforcers and private security guards to carry firearms in public.
The study was conducted from March 16 to 20.
At that time, among the issues were the continued hostilities between Malaysian troops and armed followers of the sultanate of Sulu in Sabah and the filing of murder charges against members of the Atimonan police and several soldiers involved in a shooting incident that left 13 men dead.
An election gun ban is currently in effect but loose firearms continue to proliferate.
Several people have also been shot dead despite the gun ban.
