PH attempts to bring sea dispute to ITLOS
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines is making one last attempt to convince China to bring the Scarborough shoal dispute to an international court.
With the Philippines determined to find a diplomatic solution to the issue, Foreign Affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez said Manila will officially invite Beijing this week to take the Scarborough dispute before the International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea.
If this invitation is turned down,Hernandez said the Philippines will have to move unilaterally.
"Within this week, magfa-file tayo ng formal invitation sa Tsina na dumulog kasama sa ITLOS... ng UNCLOS para maresolba itong problema pati yung issue sa West Philippine Sea...Pinakikita natin na we have explored all options para masettle ito in a peaceful manner," he told radio dzMM.
"Kung hindi sila sasama, on record, then pag-aaralang ng ating legal team na idulog ito sa UNCLOS unilaterally."
