Guingona puzzled why she was attacked by NPA
MANILA, Philippines - Gingoog Mayor Ruth Guingona, wife of former Vice-President Teofisto Guingona Jr., is still puzzled about the motive behind the ambush on her convoy, which resulted in the death of a driver and an aide.
On ANC's Headstart, the mayor said she cannot think of a reason for the attack by the New People's Army since she is not running in the midterm elections.
The mayor adds she has even provided livelihood projects to members of the NPA in the past.
Guingona admits she is supporting the campaign of her daughter but clarifies she has not received any requests to pay for a permit to campaign.
She observes the rebels have been manning checkpoints in her city in recent months.
