Manalo: CJ is entitled to an acquittal
MANILA, Philippines - Defense lawyer Dennis Manalo on Monday said Chief Justice Renato Corona is entitled to an acquittal because the allegations against him are unfounded.
"The issue here is his credibility. Every person is presumed innocent until proven otherwise," he said.
Manalo noted that the Ombudsman's testimony on Corona's dollar accounts is hearsay.
He noted that the Anti-Money Laundering Council was never presented in court or made to explain its report.
He said even the prosecution waived its right to cross-examine Corona. "If cross exam is waived, testimony is unimpeached," he said.
