MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV on Wednesday said it does not matter whether or not the next chief justice is a Supreme Court insider as long as he has wisdom and moral integrity.
He said he backs the proposal for aspirants of the chief magistrate position to sign waivers allowing their bank deposits to be opened for scrutiny.
He also supported a proposal to open the Judicial and Bar Council selection process for the next chief justice.
"Sindikato nangyayari diyan e. The past 9 years ni GMA kaya ganyan ang ating Supreme Court because puro nga areglo, puro tulak, puro padrino so that's the result. Pero kung i-o-open natin yan, the public can get to scrutinize potential and future chief justice through the help of the media," he said.
