MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III on Monday expressed resentment towards senatorial bet Juan Miguel Zubiri after the United Nationalist Alliance said they will retain him as a candidate against Pimentel’s objections.
“Nauna ako sa UNA sa kanya and yet sumasama siya sa UNA and then disrupting my plans, my party’s plans for UNA,” he said.
Pimentel said he is not depriving Zubiri of his right to run for senator but added he cannot run with a candidate whom he knows benefited from electoral fraud in 2007.
He also took unction to criticisms that he has not forgiven Zubiri for what happened in the last election.
“I am questioning the definition of forgiveness. Does forgiveness mean you also have to reward the person…” he asked.
“I cannot simply run with the same person on the senatorial slate who deprived me of 4 long years of my rightful seat in the Senate. He claims to be innocent of the fraud yet he defended those fraudulent returns from Maguindanao all the way to the Supreme Court and the Senate,” he added.
