Dapat pag-aralan muli ng media ang mga panuntunan sa pagko-cover ng mga crisis situations gaya ng hostage drama kahapon. Ito ang tugon ng Centre for Media Freedom and Responsibility. Media freedom has a corresponding responsibility. The media should not be selfish.
Ang mga pulis naman sobrang naging maluwag sa mga media at usisero kaya lalong di na nila na-kontrol ang sitwasyon ng pang-ho-hostage.

Everyone knows that you didn't limit your shots. your live feed had cause a chaotic reaction to Mendoza resulting violence. How could you deny the fact that you didn't limit your shots where in fact you had captured every angle of the situation from the position of the police up to what they will do next. Admit it media that you had contributed to this horrible disaster. How could you not think about the fact that Mendoza might be watching your news inside that bus. I guess that runs into your mind while you were busy getting a dramatic video but you just ignored it cause all you care is who gets the best picture and of course ratings again. Such a selfish act you've shown. So i guess this will be a big lesson for you media people not to abuse so much the word " freedom of the press" in this kind of situation because lives are being at risked. So stop fooling us and admit your mistakes.
Media Should Take Responsibility
The media, all television stations and reporters, were wolves yesterday. In addition to the live broadcast, the reporters on the ground were interfering with police and were only adding to the chaos. Reporters getting in front of police, nakiki-gulo lang sila.
The media needed to realize the gravity of the situation and not make it worse by their coverage that exposed the mission as well as fuel the fire of the crowd and the relatives of the hostage taker.
Media is to Blame
Instead of just reporting. The media showed everything. That is why the hostage taker could see whatever the police are doing. How stupid and dumb Ted Failon and other newscasters. Just to have good TV ratings. I think THEY ARE THE ONE TO BLAME.
They place the Hongkong tourists at risk.

That was a lousy explanation Ms Ressa, you and your reporters should have not broadcasted the arrest of his brother during the crisis. Yes, you can keep the camera rolling for a broadcast later... but your insensitive reporters and your news producers (and you) aired it - for what? Because it is happening? Because it is news? Do you people have any common sense? It is the system that have failed and not the number of people, who also have families, risked their lives with their poor equipment, training and coordination. I am also agitated by you media people airing what you knew can affect the result of that crisis. News? Hypocrites!

pareng tasyo, joker ka din pala... at peace din sa yo. wala naman akong problema kung i-ere ang video footage pero sana naman pag tapos na ang hostage taking. napaka-sensitibo po ang image or video na inere nila at nagtrigger ito ng sama at init ng ulo sa mamang hostage taker. alam mo, dahil nagbro-broadcast ang media ng live video, ito ay nagbibigay ng tactical information sa mamang hostage taker, alam kung saan nakaposisyon ang mga pulis. ang mga pulis ba may camera sa loob ng bus? wala po. si mamang hostage taker, meron sa pamamagitan ng mga camera ng media... isipin mo pareng tasyo bago mo bigyan ng parangal ang media. peace din sa yo.
