CJ Sereno seeks a responsive Judiciary
MANILA, Philippines - Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno on Wednesday said the judiciary must define for itself who it is "and redefine engagement with the direct users of its services namely litigants and the members of the general public who inevitably get affected by [its] decisions."
Speaking before a gathering of law associations in Asia, Sereno said that for the judiciary to become responsive, it has to undergo a process of redefining itself.
She urged the public: "Give us room to undertake the process of reflection and to allow the Chief Justice to lead in that process."
"Judicial reform must not revolve solely on the personality of the Chief Justice but it must be a product of a collective vision," she added.
