Mga huling sinabi ng hostage-taker sa kanyang huling panayam
Bandang ala-sais ng gabi unang narinig ang boses ni dating Police Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza sa panayam ng Radio Mindanao Network DZXL.
Mendoza: Eh totoo me magandang balita na iyong aming demand ay dala ni vice mayor, meron tumawag sa 'kin
May himig pag-asa pa si Mendoza dahil nabalitaang parating na si Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno dala ang sagot ng Ombudsman sa kanyang hiling. Nais ni Mendoza na desisyunan ng Ombudsman ang kanyang apila sa pagkakasibak sa tungkulin dahil sa umano'y pangongotong.
Mendoza: Basura sa ’kin ito, basura itong sulat na ‘to, ‘di ito ang kailangan ko.
Pero nadismaya si Mendoza nang makita ang pangako ng Ombudsman na rerepasuhin ang kaso niya. Binalingan ni Mendoza ang negosyador na si Police Superintendent Orlando Yebra.

Nakausap pa ng reporter na si Erwin Tulfo ang isang Chinese hostage.
Erwin: Are you OK?
Hostage: We are okay but we are scared.
Pero ang pinakamatinding dagok kay Mendoza, nang mapanood sa TV ang pag-aresto ng mga pulis sa kapatid na si Gregorio bandang alas siyete y medya ng gabi. Dito tuluyang bumigay ang hostage taker.
Mendoza: Nakikita ko ang sitwasyon, bakit ginaganyan nila ang mga kapatid ko? Wala namang kinalaman ‘yan. Ito kapag hindi nila binago ‘yan, tutuluyan ko na 'yang mga nandito sa loob. Tutuluyan ko na ‘to. Kapag hindi sila nagbago.
RMN Anchor: Easy lamang po, easy.
Halos anim na minutong nagsisigaw si Mendoza sa interview bilang protesta sa nangyayari sa kapatid habang nagkukumahog naman ang mga kawani ng RMN na ipaabot sa pulis ang mga banta ni Mendoza. Pero tuloy ang pag-aresto kay Gregorio at bigla na lang bumalik pa sa panayam si Mendoza para sabihing binaril niya ang dalawang hostage bago tuluyang naputol ang linya at di na narinig pa si Mendoza. – Lynda Jumilla, Patrol ng Pilipino.

During the hostage crises, a lot of people are just jumping into the rescue bandwagon hoping to become a hero.
What were the boneheads from RMN-DZXL thinking when they carelessly jump into the scene by tying down the only source of communication with the crazed hostage taker?
Excitement can indeed disrupt clear judgment of people regardless of how scholarly they are. These media men and women who wanted an “exclusive inside scoop” of this shameful fiasco are now in a quagmire. Those who wanted to become heroes during the hostage crises are now lowly cowards scampering to all directions pointing their shaking fingers of blame to other people.
This hellish hole that the whole country is in right now could have ended differently had the media, the law enforcement, the stupid brother of the hostage taker and all other pesky “asungots” just acted responsibly.
It only takes a pound of common sense and disciple to prevent a ton of disaster.

The RMN reporters' interview with the hostage taker can only be classified as sheer news sensationalism. They knew fully well that they were not authorized to talk or negotiate with the hostage taker. On the contrary, they wasted enough time of the negotiators and the hostage taker in arriving at a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
