Comelec shuts door on Mikey Arroyo party
MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is delisting the Ang Galing Pinoy party of former presidential son Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo for failing to present evidence that it represents security guards in Congress.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. said Ang Galing Pinoy is losing its accreditation on a technicality for failing to show up at the poll body hearing.
He also noted that the party was certain to lose its accreditation since the sector it seeks to represent is not included in the list of marginalized sectors in the Constitution.
"It's not saying that they are not qualified. It's just that they did not appear during the proceedings, and therefore they were unable to establish that they could continue in the 2013 elections," he told ANC's Headstart.
He added: "That is a technicality and not on the merits. They cannot represent security guards. There is no such sector as security guards so they do not qualify as a party."
