Drunk lawyer who threatened cops freed
MANILA - Authorities have freed a lawyer who verbally used policemen who arrested him after he bumped his vehicle into a Mercedes Benz on Timog Avenue, Quezon City Wednesday.
A radio dzMM report said Atty. Jesus Obillos was freed Thursday by police following his arrest and incarceration at QC police station 10 Wednesday morning.
The report said Obillos was drunk and had fallen asleep in his car parked on Timog Avenue Wednesday when someone knocked on his window and asked him to move his vehicle.
Incensed, Obillos then moved his car which hit the Mercedes.
Police said they arrested Obillos, who became verbally abusive at the arresting officers. The report said Obillos threatened PO3 Francis Serrano and his group that he was a lawyer and that they would be reassigned to Tawi-Tawi if they proceeded with the arrest.
A fellow lawyer later confirmed Obillos is a fellow lawyer. The report said Obillos became a lawyer in 1984 but was now concentrating on his business.
Obillos later apologized to the arresting officers after he sobered up.
Police freed Obillos, saying they will no longer file charges of alarm and scandal, resisting arrest, indirect assault and oral defamation against the lawyer after his apology.
Obillos, however, will need to pay for damages to the Mercedes. Report by Johnson Manabat, radio dzMM
