MANILA - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said they will only grant new school service franchises to those with vehicle models from 2012 and up.
LTFRB spokesperson Mary Ann Salada said the new memorandum circular, which will be implemented next year, is meant to safeguard students.
Salada also maintained the franchises of existing school service operators will not be renewed if they are still using vehicles that are over 15 years old.
"The LTFRB - we do not settle because the requirement for securing of the franchise is that the operator must prove to the board that they are financially capable," she said.
