MANILA, Philippines – The La Mesa dam is near its spilling level of 80.15 meters, an official said on Wednesday.
In a text message sent to ABS-CBN News, Engr. Teddy Angeles said as of 12 noon, the dam’s water level has reached 79.9 meters.
He said between 11 a.m. and 12 noon, the water level increased by 17 centimeters.
He added that if the rain does not stop, the dam will overflow in 2 or 3 hours.
Weather bureau PAGASA on Wednesday said a “rainband” is causing heavy rain in Metro Manila.
PAGASA officer-in-charge and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Graciano Yumul said this weather system is expected to dump 20 to 80 millimeters per hour of rain over the National Capital Region and nearby areas.
