MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – Two suspects on board a passenger bus traversing EDSA were shot Friday afternoon after they attempted to steal jewelry from one of the passengers, who turned out to be a policeman in civilian clothes.
The driver of the Kellen bus (UVX 682), Joseph Tuisa, said the suspects pulled off the heist before they got off near the Boni Avenue MRT Station in Mandaluyong at around 4:30 p.m.
“Pumara ‘yung dalawang holdaper eh ‘di hininto ko ‘yung bus. ‘Pag hinto ko ng bus, ‘pag tapat nila diyan sa target nila, inagaw ‘yung alahas ng lalaki,” said Tuisa.
The policeman, who chased down the suspects, said they also tried to stab him multiple times.
“Apat na beses nila ako inuundayan ng saksak eh, sinasalag ko lang ng kamay ko,” said SPO3 Danilo Cosme.
Another police officer, SPO1 Alexander Tan, was also on board the bus and chased the suspects.
“’Pag baba nila, sumunod agad ako at nagpakilalang pulis. Bumwelta sa akin ng may dalang panaksak, binara ko na ‘yung dalawa,” he said.
The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Dennis Nabale and 26-year-old Edwin Moella, sustained gunshot wounds.
Moella was brought to the Mandaluyong Medical Center while Nabale tried to escape, but was later arrested. He was brought to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
