Coin game started bloody Bilibid riot
MANILA – An argument over a coin game started a bloody riot that killed at least one inmate and left three others wounded inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa on Tuesday evening.
NBP chief Superintendent Venancio Tesoro said the riot that occurred at around 11:30 p.m. inside Building 3 of the Maximum Security Compound was triggered by a misunderstanding over the coin game "Cara y Cruz."
He said two inmates were playing the game when they got into a fight and started the riot.
"Nagkantyawan, nagkapikunan hanggang sa sila'y naging wild na," he told radio dzMM.
Tesoro said visitation privileges have been suspended due to the incident.
Authorities are also checking the maximum security facility for deadly weapons.
The NBP houses over 22,000 inmates, which is over the 7,000 capacity rate. At least 13,213 inmates are inside the Maximum Security Compound.
The building where the riot occurred, meanwhile, houses at least 500 inmates. – report from Johnson Manabat, dzMM
