Coast Guard, US Navy still prefer dismantling of USS Guardian
MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Coast Guard and the US Navy are sticking to their plan of dismantling the USS Guardian which ran aground in the Tubbataha Reef last month.
The plan has been submitted to the provincial government and the Tubbataha Management Office.
Coast Guard Chief Rodolfo Isorena said he hopes the plan will be approved.
Authorities want to make sure that the salvage operations will not cause further damage to the reef.
The incident has already damaged 4,000 square meters of the marine sanctuary.
