MANILA, Philippines – Serena Williams is aiming to overtake fellow American Chris Evert as the oldest No. 1 in women’s tennis.
Evert was 30 years and 11 months when she was No. 1 in 1985. Serena, now 31 years old, is regarded as one of the most outstanding players at the moment after winning the Wimbledon, US Open and Olympic titles last year.
Serena could become the best in the world if she gets a good run at this month’s Australian Open in Melbourne. -- Mornings @ ANC, January 3, 2013
