PH to host big Asian basketball championship
The Philippines will host this year's FIBA Asia Championship, which will serve as the qualifying event for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.
The FIBA Asia Executive Committee decided to grant the Philippines the hosting rights given the current situation in Lebanon, where the event was originall y slated.
In their official website, FIBA Secretary General Hagop Khajirian says the on-going civil war in Syria has an indirect effect on the countries in the whole of West Asia, especially on Lebanon.
The 27th FIBA Asia Championship is scheduled to take place on August 1 to 11.
The last time the Philippines held such a big basketball event was when Manila hosted the FIBA Asia Championship in 1973. – ANC Dateline Philippines, Jan. 11, 2013
