MANILA, Philippines – Swiss maestro Roger Federer is off to his 10th straight Australian Open semifinals after fending off a challenge from Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Seventh-seed Tsonga refused to yield, unleashing a barrage of shots to level the match at two sets apiece.
But Federer kept his composure and captured the decisive break in the fifth set.
Federer then closed it out with an overhead smash to seal the win after a grueling three hours and 34 minutes.
Federer will play Andy Murray for a place in the finals as he continues his bid for an 18th Grand Slam title and his fifth at Melbourne Park. -- Mornings @ ANC, January 24, 2013
