Golden Boy boss blasts Arum over Mares-Donaire fallout
MANILA, Philippines – Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer is criticizing Top Rank counterpart Bob Arum after the two sides failed to come to an agreement for a fight between Nonito Donaire and Abner Mares.
Schaefer, who promotes Mares, blasted Arum and Top Rank after they refused a $3-million offer for Donaire’ services.
Arum had rejected the contract, saying that it was not a “real offer.”
After the negotiations for the Mares fight fell apart, Donaire agreed to fight another fellow champion, Guillermo Rigondeaux of Cuba, who is also promoted by Top Rank. -- Mornings @ ANC, February 11, 2013
