MANILA, Philippines – Andy Murray reached the fourth round at Wimbledon after a hard-fought victory over Marcos Baghdatis.

Murray took the first set, then Baghdatis fought back to steal the second. After a break in play to allow the roof to be moved over the court, Murray took the next two sets for a victory over the unseeded Cypriot.

Murray hopes to become the first British male champion at Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams recovered from a sluggish start to beat China’s Zheng Jie in a marathon Wimbledon third-round match.

The American four-time Wimbledon champion struggled to cope with the windy conditions and needed a tournament-record 23 aces to get past Zheng.

With the win, Serena set up a last-16 clash with Yaroslava Vedova of Kazakhstan. -- Dateline Philippines, ANC, July 1, 2012.
