MANILA, Philippines – Fresh from a sorry loss in the World Pool-Billiards Association (WPA) World 9-Ball Championship in Doha, Qatar, Filipino cue masters got off to a blazing start in the 2012 World Pool Team Championships in Beijing, China.
The team, composed of Efren “Bata” Reyes, Francisco “Django” Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo and Rubilen Amit, trounced the Indonesian team, 4-2, in a rousing start in Group A play.
Team Indonesia was composed of Ricky Wang, Isral Afrinneza Nasution, Muhammad Zulfikri and Amand Rahayu.
The tournament offers a total pot prize of $300,000, with the winning team taking $80,000 and the runner-up team taking $40,000.
Also making waves in Group A is Team Croatia (Ivica Putnik, Bozo Primic, Carlo Calmatin and Zrinka Antonijevic) who bested Team Estonia (Erki Erm, Joonas Saska, Mark Magi and Anna Grintosuk), 5-1.
The World Pool Team Championship features all billiards disciplines: 8-Ball, 9-Ball and 10-Ball. -- By Marlon Bernardino.
