Phelps makes Games history with 19th medal
MANILA, Philippines – American swimmer Michael Phelps is now the most successful Olympian of all time, after helping Team USA win the 4x200-meter freestyle relay.
With their victory, Phelps gained his 19th Olympic medal, composed of 15 golds, two silvers and two bronze medals.
Phelps swam the anchor leg of a relay that the Americans dominated from start to finish, after Ryan Lochte handed them a commanding lead.
It was a historic moment in the 116-year annals of the modern Olympic Games and an emotional one for Phelps, who was hailed by spectators and fellow athletes alike. Mornings @ ANC, August 1, 2012.
