UAAP: Eagles overcome Tams; Archers stun Tigers
MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Blue Eagles continued their mastery over budding rivals FEU Tamaraws, winning 77-64 in their second round meeting in UAAP Season 75.
In a physical encounter that saw three players thrown out of the game, the Blue Eagles waxed hot from the field in the second half to overhaul a slim halftime deficit and post their eighth straight victory over the Tamaraws.
With the win, Ateneo’s record improved to 8-1, tightening their grip on the top spot of the UAAP standings.
The Tamaraws dropped to 7-3.
In an earlier game, rookie sensation Jeron Teng towed the De La Salle Green Archers past the UST Growling Tigers, 53-51, when he drilled a jumpshot at the buzzer.
Teng showed remarkable composure for a rookie, as he received the ball in a tied with game with three seconds left and fired a running jumper that hit nothing but net.
Playing without LA Revilla and Yutien Andrada, several other players stepped up for La Salle, including veteran guard Almond Vosotros and rookie point guard Thomas Torres.
La Salle’s record improved to 6-3, putting them ahead of National University in the league standings.
The Tigers dropped to 7-3. -- Dateline Philippines, ANC, August 30, 2012.
