MANILA, Philippines – Rio de Janeiro takes the Olympic baton from London as organizers from the two cities kick off a meeting to share knowledge about the Games.
The president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, Carlos Nuzman, officially received the Games baton.
The London Organizing Committee of the Olympics and Paralympic Games chairman Sebastian Coe handed Nuzman a symbolic baton as discussions about the planning of the Games began in a beachfront hotel in Rio.
But Rio’s organizing committee is facing many obstacles and are struggling to have venues completed in time.
The Brazilian city’s efforts are also being overshadowed by cost overruns and overburdened airports, roads and subway lines. -- Mornings @ ANC, November 19, 2012
