MEXICO CITY - A Mexican court has ordered the release on bail of seven state employees arrested in connection with a fire that swept through a day care center in the city of Hermosillo, killing 47 children.

The seven worked in a warehouse belonging to the Sonora state secretary of finance where a fire broke out June 5 and then spread to an adjacent warehouse housing the ABC day care center.

A spokesman for the Sonora Supreme Court, Juan Luis Duarte, told AFP the seven workers were released on bail Tuesday night and will face charges for lesser offenses.

"The legal proceedings do not end with this," he said.

Duarte would not say whether anybody remains in custody in the case but Mexican press reports said the supervisor of day care centers of the Mexican Social Security Institute, which had rented the day care center to a private party, has been detained.
