Myanmar will not be at Obama ASEAN meeting: White House
WASHINGTON - The White House said on Thursday that leaders from military-ruled Myanmar would not be at a meeting between President Barack Obama and Association of Southeast Asian Nations leaders next month.
"I don't believe they will be in attendance," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said, when asked if Obama was prepared to meet leaders from the US foe inside the ASEAN meeting, which is scheduled to be held next month in Singapore.
Gibbs announced on Wednesday that Obama would meet ASEAN leaders when he is Singapore for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in mid-November.
"The President will hold his first-ever meeting between a US president and leaders of the 10 Southeast Asian nations that make up the ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations," Gibbs said on Wednesday.
